Sigh.
A old project done
sometimes it feels like you’re a different person when you finish something that has taken too long to complete.

Travel Sketches of Mexico 7
this one has a game maggie and i play. i draw people we know and she guesses who they are. some of them only need a few lines to work and some of them fail. most of them fail. i was a little off from the air travel. My soul still hadn’t caught up to me.

Again, with the life drawing.

Oblong heads are all the rage with the kids.
Sketches for Toes
The sketches for the next book are building up. I’m pretty sure bad hair cuts are an integral part of growing up.

Real Life Drawing
Week three!
Into the Pit, Pony!
I don’t know how many people outside of the Maritimes know of the story of the Pit Pony. The cutest of the cutest little guys are sent into the coal mines and work long hard days. There’s also a young boy who works in the mine. They run away together and travel through time solving historical crimes and occasionally…make friend or two.
or something like that.

Thank you, Frank.

Oh Leaves, how you've changed.
"Hey, that's Yasemin's dad!"
i sketched some gentlemen having coffee and was told later that it was a friends father.
funny. i guess they’re all someone’s father.
Real Life Drawing
I decided to be proactive and instead of waiting for it to just materialize around me i decided to start a Weekly Life Drawing Session. There were just 5 of us including the model but it felt so familiar and forgotten. Like the first swim of the summer season.
Old Man
All day yesterday and last night nothing was working out with this poster but at the last minute i managed to pull this together through a fortunate mistake while messing around with photoshop.
a religious man would call it providence. others would call it shit-house luck.
p’tay-toe p’tah-toe.
More Movie Magic
I watched Fellini’s Amarcord the other day and all the characters are so great! The teachers, the blind accordion player, the tobacconist, the drunk grandfather, the crazy uncle. But i think my favourite is the motorcyclist who randomly farts through the city scenes three or four times through the movie.
I wish could remember as many wacky characters from my childhood. Just the chads,...
A Throw back
this is an old drawing i found in a drawer of paper.
cold. tired and so stuffed up my brain has left because there isn’t enough room in my head. Hello winter, good bye comfort.
In T-shirt we trust
i remember watching two friends in a pretend fight at the Mocha when it existed, years ago. and after one of them threw a fake punch the other came back with:
“Nice punch! Good thing my cotton t-shirt has a high thread count…”
Good one Jon. i think his name was Jon.
(the above image is in use and available through the Old Man himself. Check out his shows. Love him, stomp a...

Idea Generation
Oct 19th, 2008
[Below is a handout that for a little talk I gave on concept generation for my class at Parsons. I thought maybe you would enjoy it, since Frank seems to get a great reception when he gets all “talky” and informative.
Following this guide will not guarantee you success, conceptually, ...

Well, Hello there Cowboy...
This was taken from a Western painting by Frederic Sackrider Remington.

Class Project ate my Homework
Prject
This is a result of an assignment i gave in class last week (Intro Children’s Illustration). First, i wrote passages on the board with different themes and tones. Then everyone was asked to fill a sheet of paper with lines of different quality. Then they were asked to try to illustrate some of the passages non-representationally (?) with just the lines and communicate the tone of the...
Movie Magic
Here are some more sketches i’ve scribbled while watching movies. This one is from Kurosawa’s “High and Low”. One of my new favourite flicks. In the corner i scribbled names of illustrators suggested to me by my friend Kate Beaton. They are pretty awesome and inspiring. Jon Klassen, Scott Cambell and Gipi.
Movie Magic
Lately i’ve been trying to make the most of my time spent with films. these are taken from Wild Strawberries, the Ingmar Bergman film and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.
